We got to catch up with John with a quick Q&A chatting about Aiken, Southern and all things Christmas.
H&H- We are so happy to have you in Aiken this year!
What memories do you have of the holidays in Aiken?
JB- I was so young when we moved away, but I do have memories of being with my grandmother, mom and dad and siblings. We would go out to Windsor and spend Christmas at the farmhouse. It was always a close time with our family.
H&H- What type of hunting or fishing do you enjoy, or what gets you outdoors?
Any special childhood memories of outdoorsmanship?
JB- The most outdoorsy thing I have done in my life is with horses. I had horses for years and really enjoyed that aspect of being outdoors with my animals.
H&H- We all enjoy seeing you with your wife Robin, will we get to see her this year for the Christmas tour?
JB- Oh absolutely - I wouldn't go on the tour without her as she brings a lot to the show.
H&H- What does it mean for you to be from the South? What makes that special?
JB- I don't know what it would be like to be from anywhere else. I love our culture and traditions in the south. Growing up in Athens, GA and being from Aiken, is something I cherish - NOT TO MENTION THE FOOD! (Laughing)
H&H- Your latest album “Find My Joy” was produced by Steve Dorff, tell us a little how that came about and the collaboration process!
JB- It came about through my manager Brian Smith who sent me a song that Steve had written; it is the title track. When I saw the email - I deleted it because I had no desire to hear it. I was going through chemo from throat cancer and joy wasn't at the top of my list. For me as a follower of Christ, that was completely wrong because I was basing my happiness and my joy on my circumstances. That song was able to help me refocus on what really matters; that was my walk with Christ.
John’s Christmas show is a CSRA favorite. In the past it has been across the river in Augusta, what a great event to bring to Aiken! John also plays his radio hits and adds a bit of storytelling during the concert making it a great night.
